What does personal training cost?

The honest answer: it depends on what you buy. An hour at the studio, a package with a plan and support, or purely online coaching are three different products. Here we sort them out so you can compare offers.

The three usual models

Most coaches charge in one of three ways. What gets you further in the end is rarely the hour itself, but what happens before and after it.

Model 1

Single session in person

You pay per session. What you get is the time with your coach, rarely more. Good for getting to know each other or for one-off technique sessions.

Model 2

Package or monthly coaching

Several sessions plus a plan, check ins and being reachable between sessions, for a fixed amount. Usually cheaper per session, but binding for both sides.

Model 3

Online coaching

A plan, regular reviews and chat, without sessions in person. Much cheaper, but you need discipline and clean technique.

What an hour costs

An average figure doesn't help you much, because prices vary widely. On its website, the Bundesverband Personal Training gives the range charged in Germany and a minimum price it considers necessary for a trainer to make a living from their work.

€35 to €180an hour is what personal trainers in Germany charge
€95an hour is the minimum the association recommends

So always ask for the specific offer and what's included besides the hour.

What sets the price

  • Qualifications and specialisation, for example experience in rehab or in preparing for a competition.
  • The location: their own studio, rented space in a gym, outdoors or at your home.
  • Support between sessions: plan, nutrition, check ins and how quickly your coach replies.
  • Group size: in a small group you share the price, but it gets less individual.

How to compare offers

Don't work out the hourly rate, work out the price per month, with everything that happens between sessions. A coach with the higher hourly rate can end up cheaper if the plan and nutrition are already included.

Example calculation with made-up prices, four sessions a month
Per monthCoach ACoach B
Price per session90 €110 €
4 sessions360 €440 €
Training plan€80 extraincluded
Nutrition and check ins€60 extraincluded
Total500 €440 €

Also ask about the cancellation rules and whether you can pause or extend a package, for example on holiday or after an injury.

Three questions for the first conversation. What's included in the price? What happens if I have to cancel? And how will you move me forward in the next four weeks?

How it works with Fitiva

At Fitiva, every coach sets their own prices, for single sessions and for packages such as a 10 session pass. You see the price in their profile before you book. You pay online or at the session, and you pay exactly the price you see, with no surcharge. You can cancel a booked session in the app until it starts. Whether you get money back is up to your coach.

Between sessions, your coach sends you the plan straight into the app. Your workouts and meals reach your coach without screenshots. And Ava, the AI in Fitiva, answers your questions even when your coach is busy training. That way, support between sessions becomes part of the package, not an extra.

Who pays the fees? The coach. On sessions, packages and events, Fitiva keeps 5% on the Free plan, 2.5% on Pro and 0% on Elite. Card payments also carry Stripe's card fee, 1.5% plus €0.25 per payment. If you pay at the session, there is none. For you, the price stays the one in the profile. All plans are on the page for coaches.

In short

Personal training costs as much as the product you buy. Compare packages, not hours. And pick the coach who tells you most clearly in the first conversation how they will move you forward in four weeks.

Frequently asked questions about pricing

How much does an hour of personal training cost?

Every coach sets that themselves. The Bundesverband Personal Training gives a range of €35 to €180 an hour in Germany and recommends at least €95 (as of 09/2026). What matters is what's included besides the hour.

Is a package cheaper than single sessions?

Per session, usually yes, because you commit to several sessions. Still, work out the price per month with everything that comes with it, and ask whether you can pause a package.

Is online coaching a cheaper alternative?

It usually costs much less than training in person, because there's no travel and no studio. But you need discipline and should already do the exercises with clean technique. A middle way is the hybrid model: in person now and then, online in between.

What does a coach cost at Fitiva?

Every coach sets that themselves. You see the price in their profile before you book. You pay online or at the session, with no surcharge for you.

Can I cancel a booked session?

Yes, right in the app, until the session starts. Whether you get money back is up to your coach.
